Come out to the 16th annual Give Back Festival! This year’s festivities will feature live bands, fun kids activities and pop-up workouts. You won’t want to miss this fun community event!

 

The Ghostly Circus: Dante’s Inferno

Are you ready for some summertime spooks? 7textures is coming to Laurel Hill Cemetery for an evening of enchanting fire and aerial performances with the Ghostly Circus. This unique, other-worldly show features contemporary circus arts with live music and a Dance-with-the-Dead After-Party.

Spend a night under the stars at Awbury Arboretum’s Cope house to enjoy hands-on children’s activities before dusk. You can also BYO-telescope, to get a look at the stars and planets, or use the astronomer’s telescope that will be available. With clear skies, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Saturn will be visible! Have any questions? Ask the on-site astronomer from the Franklin Institute!

 

Philly Free Streets

Saturday, August 11

Broad St. Between City Hall & Erie Ave.

Cost: Free

Your parents may have warned you not to run in the streets, but you can ignore that during Philly Free Streets, since there will be 8 miles (roundtrip) of car free roads spanning between City Hall and Erie Ave. You can also expect to see special activations from local businesses and artists along the way. Don’t miss this annual opportunity to explore new neighborhoods and meet your neighbors!

Copy, paste, repeat at this outdoor festival hosted by Fleischer Art Memorial. Come out to see work by Philadelphia screen-printers, independent artists, and collectives, as well as some yummy food trucks! All proceeds from this event will go towards making art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.

Theatre in the X presents THE WIZ

Theater should be accessible to all, which is why Theatre in the X is bringing The Wiz to Malcolm X Park for free! This performance will be an homage to Hip Hop and Black cinema of the late 80s/early 90s, as our iconic characters will journey through an Oz remixed with all the nuance and cultural swag of the Black experience in America.

 

Louis Bluver Outdoor Movie Series: Wet Hot American Summer

Celebrate summer with the ridiculous cult classic that is Wet Hot American Summer! Taking place in the ‘80s over the course of the last day of camp, a motley group of counselors set out to tie up romantic loose ends and possibly save the world from a giant meteorite.

Folk music lovers across Philadelphia unite at the Philadelphia Folk Festival for four days of camping and music! The Folk Festival is a perfect family event, with puppeteers, jugglers, aerialists, storytellers, hands-on crafts and of course, kid-oriented musicians.
