Reimagined Parkway Central Library: Grand Opening Weekend

Celebrate the grand opening of nearly 41,000 square feet of reimagined public and staff space at the Parkway Central Library with a weekend of fun and festivities! Beginning Friday, April 12 and continuing through the weekend, the public is welcome to explore for the first time The Robert and Eileen Kennedy Heim Center for Cultural and Civic Engagement, the Business Resource and Innovation Center (BRIC), and the Field Teen Center. Additionally, the Free Library will unveil a new work by Philadelphia-based artist Colette Fu, an original artwork commissioned by the City of Philadelphia’s Percent for Art Program and the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Wilkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome to the Kit Kat Club, where the girls are beautiful, life is beautiful, and absolutely nothing is off-limits. Bob Fosse’s adaptation of the hit stage musical follows wide-eyed young Brit Brian (Michael York), who arrives in Berlin in 1931 and falls in with a decadent circle led by free-spirited cabaret performer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli). Sally headlines the Kit Kat Club, a seedy venue presided over by a sinister Master of Ceremonies (Joel Grey) and frequented by disreputable patrons more concerned with the threat of syphilis than with the increasingly violent and powerful Nazi party.
Artist Talk: Amplifying Civic Power in North Philadelphia

Artists in residence from The Village of Arts and Humanities will present the process behind creating “Home Court: The Hartranft Basketball Court Revival,” a creative placemaking project that used art to unite community leaders across generations and revitalize a local basketball court with deep ties to the neighborhood. Artists Scott Ziegler, Jordan McCree and Michael McDermott will present the soundscapes created for the exhibit and discuss the intensive process of turning interviews with community members and ambient recordings into a soundscape illustrating the past, present, and future of the neighborhood.
